• At Kingsthorne, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
• We aim to, where possible, link work to other topic areas and show the children how important Design is in our local area.
• The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design. At Kingsthorne we encourage every child to become innovators and risk-takers.

Through a variety of practical and creative activities, we teach the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an interactive process of designing and making. It has been planned that the key skills and knowledge are mapped across the school to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum and progression across the year groups. At Kingsthorne we believe that Cooking and Nutrition is something that we feel is essential for our children to learn about frequently. As a school we have decided to ensure it is taught in every year group at Kingsthorne.
